(Bi)cycling across

It was lovely new, aesthetic and bright
Oh, its training wheels felt so secure!
I gaily flew on it, through a superb sight
Of scented blossom and warmth, demure

Child that imperceptibly faded in transition
To a fickle juvenile with bold ambition
So, the sought bumpy paths justly skinned more
Than knees, each fall marked my budding core

Of ripening human, on my ineluctable quest
To wrest, from cobbled and muddy, the best
And fondly hold onto the handlebar even when
The rust swathes it and frailty finds our hand
